Eligibility Rules and Submission Guidelines – Canada Makes 3D Challenge

Canada Makes 3D Challenge is open to all students enrolled in a Canadian academic institution. Students must be enrolled in a program at any time during the 2017/2018 academic year. This includes international students enrolled in a Canadian college or university.

The competition is open to individuals and teams of no more than three members. There is no limit to the number of entries from a particular institution. However, a Faculty member team advisor from the students’ college or university must authorize the design submission. An individual student may participate on only one team. Each team may only have one entry.

Student entries are covered under the 3D Challenge’s Terms & Conditions.

How to Participate

Registration for all Canada Makes 3D Challenge submissions opens November 22, 2017 and phase 1 concludes February 28, 2018 midnight EST. To compete in the challenge, the student/team leader is required to complete the following:

  • Business Case Report (guidelines below)

Business Case Report Guidelines

In the report, students must articulate business case justification of their design;

  • Its overall value
  • Time to produce
  • Cost impact
  • Sustainability
  • Energy consumption or renewable energy generation
  • Reduced materials
  • Promoting green design

Must be in English or French.

Include a cover page with;

  • Design project title
  • Individual and/or team names and email addresses
  • Faculty sponsor name and email address
  • 3D CAD Files any format
  • Product image(s)
  • Maximum 800 words
  • Contain product CAD and/or 3D printed images

Notification of Acceptance

Entries that have been accepted will be notified if and once all required components are completed.
