Last week at Rapid + TCT in Fort Worth, Texas SME released a report “Experts in Demand: Growth in Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) Creates Need for Professionals.” The report discusses the exponential growth in metal AM over the last decade and how medical, aerospace and automative are integrating the technology. The report outlines how the sector’s growth has created the need for skilled professionals to run a successful operation.
Certain challenges are holding back growth for Metal AM such as the regulatory environment, capital and qualified workers.
Worldwide Metal AM system sold in 2017 saw an increase of almost 80% over 2016, this has resulted in a step demand for skilled employees. Three main factors are driving the increases, technology development, materials development and standards development.
The report includes a case study by Canada Makes partner Precision ADM’s CEO Martin Petrak “Using mettle to find success with metal.”
