Canada Makes leads trade mission to Germany

Canadian Manufacturing & Exporters’ (CME) Canada Makes is taking part in its first trade mission. A delegation from Canada’s additive manufacturing sector will visit Germany next week, January 24-30. The mission will visit leaders in the German metal additive manufacturers sector in and around Munich and Hamburg, with a particularly focus on OEM’s.

“Canada Makes is looking for avenues to build strong stable relationships on behalf of the Canadian Manufacturing sector,” said Frank Defalco, the Manager of Canada Makes who will lead the Canada Makes mission in Germany. “Sharing knowledge and skills across borders is vital to succeeding in the global economy and this mission reinforces Canada’s interest in adopting metal additive manufacturing to keep us competitive.”

Delegates will be taking part in a full day tour of the DMG MORI plant at DECKEL MAHO to see the latest innovations and groundbreaking technologies on offer, also on the agenda is a visit to Airbus Defence & Space at the Ludwig Boelkow Campus (LBC).

Another stop on the trade mission is a tour with Electro Optical Systems (EOS) offering insight about their approach to innovation through lightweight construction, shortened R&D times, and reduced manufacturing costs–all important benefits in the adoption of additive manufacturing.

Included are stops at FIT AG Additive Manufacturing Group which specialize in innovative solutions in the field of additive manufacturing, and Hoedtke GmbH & Co. KG metal and laser technology who specialize in the handling and processing of metallic materials. The final stop will be SLM Solutions who focus on the development, production and distribution of  innovative selective laser melting systems.

Trade missions like this are about opening doors, providing on-the-ground support, business-to business contacts, information and tools for Canadian businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). With Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service offering its experience and expertise in planning the mission it is sure to be a successful and enjoyable experience and the first of more to come.
