AtlanticXL: Advancing Qualified Additive Manufacturing in Canada
Canada Makes is pleased to highlight AtlanticXL, who are advancing metal additive manufacturing capabilities with a strong focus on quality-driven production.
Operating at the intersection of additive manufacturing and the energy sector, AtlanticXL recently achieved a major milestone - becoming the first facility in the Americas to receive Lloyd’s Register Additive Manufacturing Facility Qualification. This recognition validates the organization’s ability to deliver consistent, reliable outputs across the full manufacturing lifecycle, from design through to final inspection.
For industries like offshore energy, marine, and aerospace, where risk is high and reliability is critical, this qualification represents more than a technical achievement. It establishes a trusted foundation for adopting additive manufacturing in regulated environments.
As Sean Morgan, Director of Operations at AtlanticXL, explains:
“The foundation of any successful manufacturing process is quality… your clients need to have confidence that you can provide a consistent, reliable output every time.”
Beyond qualification, AtlanticXL is focused on helping industry identify where additive manufacturing truly delivers value. Rather than positioning the technology as a one-size-fits-all solution, the team emphasizes practical use cases, particularly where supply chain challenges and long lead times create operational risk.
In sectors where downtime can carry significant cost, additive manufacturing offers a new level of flexibility. By enabling on-demand production and reducing reliance on traditional supply chains, companies can improve resilience and respond faster to critical needs.

Looking ahead, AtlanticXL plans to expand its material capabilities while continuing to educate industry on how to effectively adopt additive manufacturing. Through its work, the organization is helping shift the conversation from experimentation to real-world, production-ready applications.
