Last week, Canada Makes had the privilege of attending the Holistic Innovation in Additive Manufacturing (HI-AM) conference 2023 in Halifax, NS, Canada. The conference provided an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, enabling us to learn from leading minds in the academic field and connect with our members.

The HI-AM conference has become an annual gathering, serving as a focal point for the NSERC HI-AM Network and Canada's academic community involved in metal additive manufacturing. T
his year's event attracted a range of participants, including researchers, scientists, and industry professionals, all eager to share their advancements, insights, and experiences in AM. The conference provided a platform for oral and poster presentations, facilitating the transfer of AM research results and fostering knowledge exchange. It was great to connect with our Canada Makes members at this year’s conference, giving us the opportunity to connect and share ideas in person. The conference showcased the progress made in metal additive manufacturing and highlighted the pivotal role that collaborative efforts play in advancing the field.

HI-AM Network:

The HI-AM Network, hosted by the University of Waterloo, brings together 19 renowned AM experts from seven Canadian universities. The network is supported from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). Through collaboration and access to advanced research infrastructure, these experts share ideas, innovations, and cutting-edge research to conduct holistic AM experiments. The network's industry partners, including major aerospace, automotive, and biomedical manufacturers, demonstrate the broad impact potential of AM technology, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative approach. These partnerships ensure that the network's results directly benefit the manufacturing industry in Canada and globally.
